Duramax ticking noise.

I have a ticking sound in my Duramax that is getting louder and louder. It is reminiscent of a bad lifter and gets louder under load. Jan 27, 2021. #1. Hello, New to the forum, having issues with a 2019 silverado 3500 I just purchased about 3 weeks ago. The engine has developed a very loud ticking, sounds like its coming from the drivers side. At times you also hear a thumping noise that sounds like its coming from towards the front of the engine.

Don't ask me how I know, had to have aluminum adapter plate, flywheel flex plate and torque convertor replaced because of torque convertor bolts coming loose ...

The ticking noise could be that you are snesative to the ticking noise that Duramax engines make, some more than others. The valve lash seems to be a noise maker. I hear ticking in my engine, but I believe I'm pretty sensitive to it. A little bit less noisy with 15W-40 oil vs 5w-40. But the erratic idling is something that you should address.
