Hi all, As the title suggests, I'm curious about the quality of life of a community Heme/Onc physician. I'm currently deciding between a hybrid community vs academic job. When I discuss the community job with attendings, they act like 4d/week in community is the end of the world and unsustainable.While all of these lifestyle specialties tend to deal with chronic illnesses, compared to rheum, endo, geri, mortality of med onc patients is much higher (of course depends on the cancer type) and treatment course can be very unpredictable. I am an IMG as well. Heme/Onc is a terrific field. We get to know the patients well, it is mentally stimulating, nothing is routine or monotonous. The cons are that it involves very serious illness.
